Birmingham-Southern College Catalog 2015-2016

awarded to United Methodist students who demonstrate financial need.

Awards range from $1,000 to $2,500.

Ministerial Student Tuition Assistance recognizes students preparing for

ministry. Students must present satisfactory evidence of

intent to enter

seminary and full-time ministry. The award is $2,000 and is granted for one

year. Interviews are necessary to receive and renew this scholarship.

Ministerial Family Tuition Assistance recognizes and honors children of

United Methodist clergy. Assistance is $3,500, awarded annually with

confirmation of the student’s full-time status and the parent’s appointment

in the United Methodist Church.

United Methodist Church and College Partnership Scholarship recognizes

students who have served church and community. Local United Methodist

congregations may nominate students for this honor by pledging $500,

$1,000, or $1,500 per year for up to four years. No parent or family

contributions may be accepted by the Church or the College. If the student

is selected as a Church and College Partnership Scholar, the College

matches the local church contribution on a 2-to-1 basis. Awards are limited.

The College has the right to limit the match.

Army and Air Force ROTC Scholarships

These awards are provided by the Army or Air Force to selected students

who are active participants in ROTC programs.

Distinguished Young Woman of Alabama

This scholarship includes a renewable full-tuition award to Alabama’s

Distinguished Young Woman.

Miss Alabama Pageant Scholarships

Any student chosen to be Miss Alabama may receive a renewable $2,000

award that may be added to existing merit awards.

Scholastic Merit Awards

These are $2,000 awards in addition to guaranteed merit scholarships

available to finalists in the National Merit or National Achievement or

National Hispanic Competitions. Applicants must list Birmingham-

Southern College as their first college choice.
